Social Media Dilemma: Youth Addiction and Its Impact on Modern Society
In the modern world social media has become very essential in the life of youth. The youth is addicted to social media. It cannot imagine its life without it. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (Now X), YouTube and WhatsApp are the platforms of social media, many of them have a lot of benefits but the youth is mostly utilizing them negatively by wasting time and money, by involving in crimes and other immoral and illegal activities.
Almost all the platforms of social media are equally popular among youth. YouTube is a platform for videos where people from all over the world can upload videos of almost any kind. This aspect makes it very useful but also very dangerous. Although, a lot of YouTube channels are helping out people all over the world very positively but some of the channels are very harmful for youth as they contain vulgar videos and videos about crimes. These videos can ruin the lives of young people as they may get involved in these activities. By watching such immoral videos the youth is increasingly getting involved in such crimes as rape, kidnapping, blackmailing etc.
WhatsApp, Facebook ,Instagram and Twitter (Now X) are great sources of information and news. They have in reality connected people very closely and news can travel like fire through these platforms. People can see and listen to each other from all over the world. Videos and pictures are widely shared and these platforms are a great source of entertainment as well but, unfortunately, today's youth is using them more for negative uses than positive. They use them just for gossiping and sharing useless pictures and videos. They spend lots of their money uselessly and many times negatively.
Tiktok is a platform purely for entertainment. A lot of young people are addicted to it. They make short videos mostly acting themselves and try to be funny and impressive but in truth the TikTok videos are extremely useless only meant for wasting time. Some of its users become Tiktok stars and are fondly followed by the others. Thus the youth spends hours and hours wasting money for no good.
In conclusion, we can say that social media, although, has a lot of benefits but most of the young people are using it negatively. The need of the day is to create awareness among the youth about its negative uses. The youth cannot be kept away from social media in the modern world but it can be educated about its negative uses so that the young people, who are the future of Pakistan, can make use of the social media in the best possible way.
